Graham's Gift Children's Foundation (GGCF) was formed by Barbara J McArtney, Attorney at Law. She is a an adoptee
and a Mother of Seven including two internationally adopted children.
Barbara McArtney has over 25 years experience as an attorney with practice in diverse areas including litigation,
prosecution and mediation but with a concentration in Family Law. She has worked in the areas of Juvenile Justice,
Custody and Visitation, Divorce, Special Education and Mediation as well as Adoption.
All of GGCF's Social Workers are Masters Level licensed SWs with extensive experience in adoption.
Why We're Different
It is Graham's Gift philosophy that all parents should be empowered partners in their adoption experience, not merely
the recipients of a service by others. Knowledge is power. Prepared parents have far better outcomes according to
comprehensive research.
For this reason GGCF emphasizes realistic and honest education of parents. Adoption is not all sweetness and light.
Parents need to understand the trauma from the child's perspective. Bringing home a screaming, grieving, upset
child can be overwhelming. Adoption is a deeply fulfilling experience that brings great joy and unconditional love
but it is not without difficulties. Research shows that well prepared parents have the highest levels of satisfaction in
their adoptions.
GGCF bases its representation of a client on the attorney-client model. We represent YOU, the parent. You can
count of GGCF putting your interests ahead of any profit motive or business relationship. We are here to perform a
professional task that requires complete commitment to our clients. This is secondary only to the best interests of the
child.
We do not "partner" or "umbrella" or have any on going business arrangements with other providers or agencies. We
will not hesitate to tell you the truth whether it is positive or not about your process. If we recognize a potential
problem, we will draw it to your attention.
We will insist you are fully armed with as much knowledge as possible as you embark on your adoption journey.
